SOLAR ENERGY FUTURE JAPAN 2021

Market Overview:

• Japan is #6 worldwide in terms of cumulative installed renewable power capacity; #3 for solar PV (IEA, METI Sub-Committee);

• Under The 5th Strategic Energy Plan, Japan plans to achieve 22% to 24% renewable energy by 2030 and 80% target by 2050; 

• Japan’s cumulative installed PV capacity could reach 150 GW by 2030, from roughly 55.5 GW by the end of 2018. (RTS Corp.);

• METI inaugurated the Subcommittee on System Reform for Renewable Energy as Main Power Source and the Subcommittee for Sustainable Power Systems.
